Frankly, I find the fact that you clicked through to this page more than a little bit creepy.
This is Leftbrained, the combined portfolio, soapbox and content aggregator of Gavin Montague: a software developer based in Glasgow, Scotland.
Since 2001 I’ve worked for various creative agencies, won a Scottish Design Award, written for .NET magazine, and built a lot of websites. I’m currently the senior developer at DADA, where I split my time between client work and our own projects.
My primary language for web development is Ruby. I speak fluent PHP and can get by in Python and Java, but will spend most of my time complaining about how much easier this would all be in Ruby. I’m pretty good with Javascript and have occasional delusions that I understand Flash. At night I write Cocoa and CocoaTouch applications, one day I might produce something worthy of release.
I have an Honours Degree in Genetics, which comes in handy during bouts of insomnia when I can worry about the many incurable disorders my unborn children will surely have. I also have a Masters Degree in Software Design which has proven to be slightly more useful.
This is the second, or possibly third, iteration of Leftbrained. Almost all the old content and comments from version one were deleted as either irrelevant or just badly written.
The server-side parts of Leftbrained are build on Rails and hosted by the nice people at Slicehost.
Client-side, pages are valid HTML 4 and is progressively enhanced with the YUI framework. All pages comply with priority 1 guidelines of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and the U.S. Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines: apart from those that don't.
